The new version November 2016 (1.49) is downwards compatible to version March 2013 (1.10) and later. You can use all of these versions in a single account simultaneously.
Overview
We had a busy month because we added some quite large features to time cockpit. Active/passive travel time is now in production, we added a German UI to the HTML5 client, we reworked the reporting engine and much more. We hope you like the progress we made with time cockpit. In this article you can read more about all of this month's enhancements.
Active and Passive Travel Time in Context of Working Time Limits
Last month, we announced the private preview of time cockpit's new Active and Passive Travel Time feature. You can read more about it in our blog article Active and Passive Travel Time for Working Time Limits. This month, we worked with customers to test the functionality in real-world examples. We were glad that everything worked well. Therefore, this new time cockpit feature is now available for all customers.
Here is how you get the new feature:
- As a time cockpit administrator, download the latest time cockpit full client and install it on your machine.
- Start the new full client. It will automatically update your time cockpit configuration and install the new feature.
- Users of the web client immediately get the new feature. Users of the offline-enabled full client will get it during their next synchronization process.
Internationalization: German User Interface
The time cockpit full client has been coming with an English and a German UI for years. The HTML5 client had lacked this functionality. This has now changed. The HTML5 client now supports both languages, too.
You can change the language in the Settings area as shown in the following picture. Please note that your language settings are stored in your time cockpit user account. Therefore, time cockpit will remember your setting and use the chosen language automatically next time you log in.
Reporting Enhancements
XLSX and DOCX
This month, we upgraded our reporting engine so that time cockpit can now export reports as XLSX-files for Microsoft Excel and DOCX-files for Microsoft Word. This update has been done in the HTML5 client as well as in the time cockpit full client.
Status Indicator
In the past, some users were confused when they started a reported and seemingly nothing happened. In fact, they just started a long or complex report that took a few seconds to generate. This month we added a status indicator as shown in the following picture. It tells users that time cockpit has started generating the requested report.
Once the report has been generated, it can be downloaded using the browser's standard functionality:
Impersonation
Time cockpit's customization options are one of its most important unique selling propositions. You will find many SaaS offerings for time tracking nowadays. Many of them are designed to be a simple as possible. If you need exactly what they offer, they are a great fit. At time cockpit, we believe that every customer has unique requirements. Their internal processes (e.g. project management), pricing models, etc. differentiate them from their competitors. Thus, we have built time cockpit so that you can tailor it to your specific needs. Data model, lists, forms, reports, workflows, permissions - everything can be customized and extended. You can even add more complex functionalities by using time cockpit's scripting language (Python) or its RESTful Web API.
Time cockpit's Sandboxes are a great tool for testing customizations. Even with a sandbox it isn't simple to test functions that depend on the current user. Some of our customers have quite sophisticated permission systems. Trying functions with different user accounts becomes crucial in this context. The full client has had an Impersonation-feature since the early days of time cockpit. This month, we added support for impersonation to the HTML5 client, too.

Importer UI Enhancement
Exactly one year ago we added support for time cockpit's Excel import feature to our HTML5 client. For some customers, this feature is very important. Therefore, we added a small UI enhancement to the importer this month. We hope that it will make a big difference for powerusers of the Excel import.
In the past you were forced to perform an import test before you could launch the actual import. Sometime you know that the data you want to import is correct. Being forced to test before running the import is annoying in those cases. Now you can skip testing and immediately trigger the import.
